Nano Banana 2 is Google's product name for Gemini 3.1 Flash Image (gemini-3.1-flash-image). Google positions it as an efficient general-purpose model for image generation and conversational editing. It accepts text and image inputs and produces image and text output. Google's current model card is the primary reference for these capabilities.

Documented capabilities

The current Gemini API documentation lists:

  • 0.5K, 1K, 2K, and 4K output options — 1K is the default.
  • Text and image inputs — including reference-led generation and editing workflows.
  • Multiple aspect ratios — the exact pixel dimensions vary by ratio and selected resolution.
  • Text rendering and multi-reference workflows — results still need review; the model does not guarantee exact text or a requested number of images.
  • SynthID provenance — Google states that all images generated by Gemini image models include SynthID.

Nano Banana 2 vs Nano Banana Pro

Google describes Nano Banana 2 as the efficient general-purpose option and Nano Banana Pro (gemini-3-pro-image) as the model for complex instructions and professional asset production. Both current API models support output up to 4K. The right choice depends on your prompt, references, layout, and review criteria—not a universal quality ranking.

  1. Describe the subject, composition, lighting, style, and intended use.
  2. Choose Nano Banana 2 when it is available in the model selector.
  3. Select a supported aspect ratio and resolution; guest trials may expose fewer controls than signed-in use.
  4. Generate, inspect the result, and download it. Banananano AI adds no visible overlay watermark, but provider provenance such as SynthID may remain.
